The Sacramento Unified School District says the deadline has been extended until the end of February so students can have more time to report their status.

A school district letter sent to families said around 55% of students reported their vaccination status, and more than 27,000 are choosing to get tested for COVID. "Of the 27,697 students that are currently required to undergo routine testing because they have not reported full vaccination status, 8,226 are not yet registered to test," district spokesperson Al Goldberg said in a press release. District officials are now altering the earlier deadline, allowing an additional month so they can conduct outreach for families who have not met the requirement - the original deadline being Jan. 31. According to the district, any students who still have not met the vaccine requirement will be moved into independent study before March.

The Sacramento Unified School District is one of many seeing their vaccine status deadlines rolled back due to reporting delays - the Los Angeles Unified School District delayed the requirement for more than 600,000 students to fall of 2022, meaning 30,000 students are still out of compliance while the vaccine mandate won't be forced online.

SCUSD cites key factors in the extension are compliance rate, as well as communications, health services and school site teams’ emergency needs amid the omicron surge.
