Oroville Bus Shooter Makes Court Appearance, Judge Postpones Arraignment

The only suspect that is accused of being responsible for the Greyhound bus shooting last week outside of an Oroville gas station is making his first court appearance in a Butte County Superior Courtroom. 21-year- old Asaahdi Elijah Coleman, of Sacramento, is charged with one count of murder and four counts of attempted murder in connection with the mass shooting, according to Butte Superior Court records. The judge however postponed the hearing Wednesday morning. Coleman’s arraignment is being rescheduled until March 2nd where the Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey says he is likely to enter a plea, according to a report from the Chico-Enterprise Record.

The criminal charges will be enhanced due to his use of a firearm. Coleman faces additional charges of being a felon in possession of a gun and being a previous ward in juvenile court in possession of a gun. Coleman's court appointed lawyer Robert Marshall but Sacramento defense attorney Linda Parisi could be hired to represent Coleman. Parisi has represented Coleman in two Sacramento County cases, according to the Modesto Bee.

The Los Angeles-bound Greyhound bus was parked outside an AM-PM gas station in Oroville on the night of Feb. 2nd when Karin Dalton, 43, of Seattle was shot and killed inside the bus. Dalton’s family told The Sacramento Bee that Dalton suffered multiple wounds in the shooting as she tried to protect her 2 children that were on the bus with her. The 11 year-old daughter was grazed by a bullet but the 14-year old song remained uninjured during the gunfire. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said last week following the events that a 25-year-old pregnant woman and a 32-year-old man were also seriously injured in the shooting, and a 38-year-old man suffered minor injuries. Coleman was detained while in the nude at a nearby Walmart in Oroville shortly after the events on the bus. Witnesses on the bus told authorities that the suspect was acting erratically from the time he boarded the bus in Redding, California.

A fundraiser is being set up in the name of Karin Dalton to help cover the funeral expenses and medical costs for the daughter who was shot.
