Governor Gavin Newsom will announce a comprehensive plan that emphasizes flexibility, awareness and readiness as our state transitions from reacting to a pandemic to living with COVID-19.

The wide-ranging plan will be the first of its kind to ensure the state, communities and individuals have the tools they need to protect themselves and prepare for what is to come, with a focus on keeping schools and businesses open and safe. As of this week, the indoor mask mandate has officially lifted for individuals who are vaccinated, with some exceptions made for large venue gatherings, schools and high-risk areas such as hospitals and nursing homes. Masking indoors is still required for individuals who do not have the vaccine, and a proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test are still required in most areas of the state. Looking ahead, Newsom's office said in-part: "The wide-ranging plan will be the first of its kind to ensure the state, communities and individuals have the tools they need to protect themselves and prepare for what is to come."

The purpose of the plan, according to the Governor's office, is to remind the people that while orders are lifting based on slowing case rates, the people "shouldn't neglect the serious illness that has killed nearly one-million Americans." Newsom is slated to speak later this afternoon at 3 PM.
