KFBK Morning News Show Recap - Tuesday February 22nd

Lead Stories:

  1. New developments are unfolding right now in Ukraine. Russian troops are said to be moving into two territories now recognized as independent states. Meanwhile, President Biden is expected to reveal new sanctions against Russia today. The European Union and the U.K. are doing the same in response to new military action.
  2. The state of California is estimating they have a bigger budget surplus than previously thought. The state Legislative Analyst Office February update says between 6 and 23 billion more dollars could be added to the surplus this year. Some legislators anticipate the excess may be returned as a form of a check to taxpayers, but it's too soon to tell.
  3. Later today, another Northern Californian school district could be changing how they enforce the state's indoor student mask mandate. The Nevada Joint Union High School District (NJUHSD) in Grass Valley says they will meet this evening to discuss masking and the "need for normalcy."
  4. State Senator Dr. Richard Pan plans to introduce new legislation to keep schools open and safe amid the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. According to a release sent to KFBK, the bill will "help schools stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect public health." Dr. Pan will make his announcement later at 9:30 am.
