The Kristin Smart murder trials are getting underway in Monterey County this week, starting with jury selection. That process could take weeks as over 15-hundred jury summons went out to county residents. Smart disappeared in 1996 after a party near Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where she was a student. Fellow student Paul Flores was the last person seen with her and is being charged with her murder. His father Ruben, is being charged as an accomplice because he allegedly helped his son hide the body, which has never been found. The proceedings were moved to Salinas in order to ensure a fair trial for the father and son. Each will face separate trials and juries, so a total of 24 people will be pulled to serve.
