- Both Governor Newsom and Florida Governor Desantis continue their criticism of each other on national platforms. Governor Newsom, speaking to the Today Show, doubles down on his comments that Desantis is a "small, pathetic man" and vows again to investigate who is behind the migrant flights sent to Sacramento. - Also included in the interview on the Today Show, Governor Newsom announces he plans to introduce a 28th Constitutional Amendment that will permanently enshrine four broadly supported gun safety principles. Newsom says the amendment would raise the federal minimum age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21; mandate universal background checks; institute a reasonable waiting period for all gun purchases; and ban the civilian purchase of assault weapons. - Some Californians are receiving notices that they need to pay their IRS tax bill right away, but administrators with the IRS say those notices are being sent for legal reasons. Californians in declared disaster zones can still wait to pay their tax bill until to October since the tax deadline in most of the state has been pushed back due to the winter storms that ravaged much of the state.
