- Some local parents are taking legal action against some California schools for alleged religious discrimination. Nonprofit public interest law firm First Liberty Institute filed a lawsuit October 11 against California education officials and charter schools in the Sacramento and Maricopa areas. The parents claim the schools discriminated against families who choose to home school their kids with faith-based curricula by not allowing them to use state money to purchase materials or classes that have religious perspectives.
