  1. California Governor Gavin Newsom is being blamed for the rise in retail theft; in this case, he watched it happen. During a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, Newsom recounted a story with participants about how he was at a Target store, and somebody walked out with merchandise without paying. When Newsom asked how they are allowed to do that, the employee said "the governor" not knowing who he was. Click here to read more.
  2. Lawmakers are taking a historic step on how to compensate Black Californians. A new legislative package is being unveiled, based off recommendations from the state's reparations task force. It does not include cash payments for descendants of slavery. Click here to read more.
  3. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologized directly to the parents of children who were harmed by social media. During a Senate hearing about online child safety Wednesday, he added that his company is working on efforts to stop exploitation on his platforms.   4. Seven California communities are being rewarded for making a dent in the housing crisis. The cities of Eureka, Healdsburg, Mountain View, Petaluma, San Luis Obispo and Santa Monica, along with Tulare County, have earned the Prohousing designation. Click here to read more.
