A flatbed truck transporting an M109 Paladin Howitzer got stuck at a railroad crossing in Goose Creek, South Carolina, on Thursday (September 12) afternoon.
Moments later, a freight train came barreling down the tracks, slammed into the stuck truck, struck the howitzer, and sent debris flying in all directions. As the freight train cars continued past the debris, they hit the howitzer several more times, causing the top to spin out of the way of the train.
Luckily, nobody was injured in the high-impact collision.
The Goose Creek Police Department said that the intersections at Liberty Hall and Redbank Road were both closed due to the extensive damage caused by the crash.
A few hours later, officials said the repairs were completed, and the intersections were reopened to traffic.
Video recorded by bystanders showed the truck driver running from the vehicle as the train approached. He managed to get out of the way before the collision and refused medical treatment at the scene.
