Exclusive - Sacramento Air Ops Sgt. Randy Van Dusen stopped by the KFBK Morning News to announce the name of the department's new helicopter.
The chopper will now be known as "Halo" in honor of fallen Davis police officer Natalie Corona. As Van Dusen explained, Officer Corona went through Sacramento's police academy and often visited Sacramento's Bell Ave Elementary school as part of the department's school outreach. The kids at Bell Ave came up with the name after learning that "Corona" in Spanish can mean "crown" or "halo".
"The kids said halos reminded them of angels and that officer Corona was an angel now. They thought it a great name for the helicopter and so did we".
The new helicopter will land at Bell Ave school Thursday morning for a special ceremony, will be outfitted with special designed headrests bearing the new name and some paint to reflect the new moniker on the body.
