We're looking at the accomplishments and progress of women on this International Women's Day and one local woman just received a national award for being a trailblazer. Melissa Washington is one of 15 women honored by the Department of Veterans Affairs for starting the Women Veterans Alliance:
There are about 2 million women veterans in our country and that population is growing. Disturbingly women veterans are 3 times more likely to be homeless than their male counterparts and face similar rates of disability. The Women Veterans Alliance helps women transitioning out of the military to connect and find resources.
