Courts Ordering the Use of Co-Parenting Apps for Divorcing Couples

Some divorcing couples are being ordered to bring a technology solution into their dissolution with divorce apps designed coordinate co-parenting.  Apps like “Our family wizard” or “Cozi” can help ex’s avoid multiple trips back to court to resolve small differences. One app called, “Co-Parenter” was developed by a former family law court judge and provides parents 24-7 access to a mediator to help resolve issues on the spot.

The apps can also take pressure off the kids who may feel compelled to keep both of their parents happy.

In addition to schedules and access to mediation, several of the apps include an algorithm to rate text messages between divorcing couples, looking for language or tone that could be seen as inflammatory and advising the sender to re-word the text in a way this is more neutral.

Keeping couples out of court is the goal but parents who use these say they are game changers because for record keeping because the apps show schedules, receipts and compliance with custody and child support payments.

Below is our Monday morning audio segment including Julie Jordan, the Wall Street Journal reporter who covers family and technology.
