The science on music and medicine is substantial with studies showing benefits for everything from dementia to anxiety and pain management. We talked to Ann Roach, a local Certified Music Practitioner (CMP) about how she got into the field and why she founded Tuneswork.org.
A couple of the interesting things we learned : CMPs will often try to get a patient's heartbeat to match the tempo of the music as a way of stabilizing heart rate and the certification for a CMP is two years. They learn to help patients facing 5 different types of medical situations.
Tuneswork.org will have their annual benefit concert next month. Info on the West Coast Jam
