Crystal Mining Fueled by a Growing Demand

According to the Pew Research Center more than 60% of us hold at least one “new age” belief, including the use of crystals. As a result of those beliefs (often fueled by celebrity endorsements and social media), the demand for crystals is expanding rapidly in the 4.2 trillion dollar wellness and religion industry. In this segment we talk to Rachael Ginger Lazarus, owner of Cult of Gemini in Grass Valley. She has seen a huge increase in the demand for crystals and ceremonial plants. She tells us there is very little in the way of "fair-trade" certification for crystals and many merchants struggle with making sure their suppliers are ethical.
