I'm not much of a sports fan. Never have been. But I do enjoy the game of rugby. I played a bit when I was in high school. I was never a great player, but I was "husky" back then, and had a bit of power in me, so could move the ball.
Flash forward, and years later I was able to see what was perhaps the greatest sporting moment in my life...a game in New Zealand between the All Blacks and England.
To top it off, the week of the match, the All Blacks were working out at my local gym. You couldn't meet a nicer bunch of guys. Had this been an NFL team, the gym would have been locked up, and members wouldn't have been allowed in.
The All Blacks were such a regular bunch of blokes, they let me work in with them. Imagine that, training with the best rugby team in the world!
Even managed a few pictures with the team, including the one above with Ryan Crotty. It was my interaction with these athletes, and how down to earth and polite they were that made me love this sport even more. As the saying goes, “Rugby is a thug’s game played by gentlemen and football is a gentleman’s game played by thugs.” I'm glad to be associated with a game played by gentlemen.
