It's not that I hate the dentist...it's just that I've spent a lot of time in dental offices over the years.
My teeth are in pretty good shape, but I found out recently my gums weren't. So I had to schedule a "deep cleaning." I don't know why, but for some reason they wanted to schedule two appointments. The hygienist said it's because they have to numb each side of my mouth for the cleaning, and each cleaning would take about an hour and a half.
When all is said and done, it wasn't as bad as I thought (but good call on her part for having me come in twice...both sides of my mouth done at the same time would have been too much). I've gone out and bought one of those Sonic Care tooth brushes, and it seems to be working. My teeth are looking good, and my gums feel better.
I'm a little paranoid about good teeth. You see, I had an accident and lost three of my front teeth when I was younger. Well, not all of them, but enough that I had to have "caps" (at least that's what we called them back then, I guess they're called "crowns" today). Boy, that wasn't fun. Since I was still growing, they couldn't put permanent ones on, so I had temps. They fell out a couple of times.
Case in point, the picture above. I was on the school rugby team, and it was picture day. Just before it was time for the team photos, my temporary tooth fell out. I had no choice but to go and have my picture taken, so I didn't smile and hope it made me look "tough." It didn't...I just look like I had to go to the bathroom.
