I was brought up you should never mow the lawn, do yard work or make a lot of noise outside before 8:30 on Saturday mornings, or 9am on a Sunday. My mom and dad said that was to respect the neighbors, who might still be sleeping. Or of course, maybe they just wanted me to stay in bed longer and not bother them.
Whatever the reason, I've tried to abide by that. It makes sense, especially in the neighborhood my wife and I are living. It's quiet most of the time. But I do notice a lot of those "blow and go" lawn services start mowing at 7 or 7:30 some weekend mornings. And as the days get longer, some people will stay out doing yard work until after 9 or 9:30. Fortunately I've got great neighbors. I think we all do a great job keeping an eye on the clock, but construction/lawn work until after 10pm has happened to me in other neighborhoods/cities I've lived in.
My work hours make it a bit difficult to complain about anything, since I'm in bed by 6pm and up around 1:30am. But how early do you think it's OK to start working outdoors on a weekend? And how late into the evening is it acceptable to mow the lawn, or work on a fencing project? I'd love to get your feedback.
OK, I'm going to watch the clock, and as soon as it hits 9am this weekend, I'm back outside to tackle the yard!
