Our kids both started school recently. My wife was an angel getting school supplies for them. Both of us went to their school to pick up gym shorts, shirts, binders before class started. Then of course there were gym bags to buy, hats and school water bottles. Yearbooks are already on sale too....OMG....I can't believe how much they cost. In fact, as a new dad, I can't believe how much everything costs these days.
My wife doesn't blink an eye, because she's done this annual rite of back to school shopping for years. For me, it's only the second time I've had to face reality. I guess I must have shown I was a little surprised when we went to buy stuff the other day. My daughter said "You're not very happy, are you?" She's a preceptive little kid.
Less than 18 months in to this whole marriage/dad thing, and I'm still trying to get the hang of it. It's not easy. It's not cheap. And for all of you who have navigated this adventure before me, hats off to you.
