When I was kid, my sister and I would have to wait until the Toys R Us catalog arrived in the mail before we could start making our Christmas list. That was usually around Thanksgiving or the first week in December.
These days, with Hallmark displaying new ornaments before school is out for the summer, cable running "Christmas in July" TV movies, and Costco putting out decorations, it seems like kids are saying "I want this for Christmas" earlier and earlier each year.
My wife and I have been hearing "I want" from our kids recently. So recently, she took them out to Toys R Us to have a look around and make their list. Actually, it's not really much a "list." She takes pictures of what they'd like, then we keep them until closer to the time (plus we can text them to Santa that way).
I didn't go with them. It's probably for the best. "You'll just freak out and say look at all that stuff they don't need" my wife said, smiling as she and the kids walked out the door. She's probably right. Scratch that...she is right.
