Learning To Love Our Bird

I didn't know we were getting a parakeet. It just sort of happened last year when my wife and kids went out, and came back home with the bird. They had just moved up from San Diego, we were still trying to unpack, and things were a bit overwhelming for me.

Then "Rodie" came into our lives. And for some reason, he's grown kind of fond of me.

Whenever he's let out of his cage, he seems to find his way onto my head, and is just happy sitting there, or trying to make a nest. My wife took the picture (above) when I was trying to do some work on the computer the other day.

He's not a bad bird. I had several growing up. We've taught him a few words, and he chatters away day and night.  And when you have to get up in the middle of the night to go to work, and everyone in the house is asleep, it's kind of nice to have someone to say "good morning" and "see ya when I get home" to.
