"The Voice" is back. Yes, I'm talking about Steve Perry. Along with Journey founder Neal Schon, to me Perry's always been the face (or in this case, voice) of the group. He walked way at the height of the bands popularity. He said he had lost the love of music, and just needed a break.
The last time he recorded with Journey was 1996's Trial By Fire. There have been rumors over the years that Perry would get back together with the band. He never did. Even when the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, he spoke for a few minutes, but didn't perform. Now he's out with a new album next month called Traces.
Sometimes, when you've waited so long for something, you build up expectations, and when the moment finally comes, you're underwhelmed. Perry has released one song and video from the album, and if anything, it was more than I could have hoped for. Listen for yourself. This takes me back to when Journey really was Journey. "The Voice" is back.
