52-year-old Sacramento County deputy Robert French was shot and killed by 32-year-old Thomas Daniel Littlecloud, who also later died. Littlecloud was warned by an assistant U.S. attorney that Littlecloud had a criminal history that landed him in jail and prison multiple times over a 12 year period. Prosecutors told Judge Sallie Kim that despite Littlecloud's statement that he wanted to turn his life around, he consistently engaged in dangerous conduct. The prosecutors noted that Littlecloud often carried and used guns and had been convicted of gun related crimes.
