A new fifth-grade teacher in Tallahassee, Florida is sparking a bit of controversy after asking students to use gender-neutral pronouns.
Canopy Oaks Elementary math and science teacher Chloe Bressack sent home the request to parents asking that students use the pronouns "they, them" and "their," instead of "he, his, she," or "hers." The letter also asks students to address the teacher as "Mx" (pronounced as mix) rather than Mr. or Ms.
The school's priniciple says he backs Bressack and supports the teacher's preference on how to be addressed.
