Starting January first of 2022, most of the nation’s pork supply will become illegal to sell in California.
Industry experts like Rachel Michelin, President of the California Retailers Association, believe this'll halt interstate commerce for pork: 99.8% of the pork consumed in California comes from out-of-state, and this state would be the only one affected because of the new regulations that go into effect under Prop-12.The bottom line is higher prices. Michelin say it impacts the entire food supply chain and dis-proportionally harms certain groups who include pork as a primary protein staple.
