A deacon with the Sacramento Diocese said he thought people were kidding him when they said a tree had fallen in the strong winds on Friday and crushed his car, but reality set in quickly as he stepped into the plaza outside the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in downtown Sacramento. Fortunately, the car was unoccupied and no one was hurt in the incident.
Crews began to cut the tree into smaller pieces for removal soon after it went down, but the car is being described as total loss.
Surveillance video from the Capitol Event Center shows the moment the huge tree went down. You can someone getting into a car parked next to the deacon's car just as the tree goes over.
