Two of President Trump's top White House officials are denying claims made in a new book by veteran journalist Bob Woodward. Defense Secretary James Mattis said in a statement that he never uttered "the contemptuous words" attributed to him in the book. The Washington Post published excerpts from 'Fear: Trump in the White House' including claims that Mattis told associates that Trump had the understanding of a grade schooler. Chief of Staff John Kelly also pushed back against accusations that he called the President an idiot. He claims he has the exact opposite belief about Trump's intellect. Woodward's new book hits shelves September 11th.
