Sacramento SPCA Pet Of The Week: Penny

Meet Penny! She is a 9 year old Chihuahua that weighs around 10lbs. Sweet Penny came to the shelter in need of a dental due to severe periodontal disease and a bilateral enucleation due to suspected glaucoma. Now that she is all taken care of and after spending some time in foster care to recover, she is feeling better than ever and is ready to find her forever home! Penny is blind so her new family should be prepared to help guide this girl along on her future adventures. Blinds dogs are amazing at being able to maneuver themselves in a sightless world but do well with some guidance on things they can't see coming like big falls(stairs or pool). Precautions should be made around the house in the adjustment period as Penny gets used to her new surroundings. In her foster home, she can find her way all over the house and is able to get up 2 steps back into the house. So awesome!

  • Name: Penny
  • Animal ID: 48968545
  • Breed: Chihuahua mix
  • Sex: Spayed Female
  • Age: 9 years
  • Adoption Fee: $110

She is a sweet and loving girl that loves to be near her humans, sunbathe, and be curled up in a nice blanket. Due to her personality and being blind she can be nervous when meeting people but warms up quickly. She would prefer to be in an adult only home where someone can be with her most of the day. She has lived with other dogs in her foster home and would do well with a dog of similar personality and size. She doesn't have any history with cats but may do well with a slow introduction.
