Sacramento SPCA Pet Of The Week: Buttercup

Meet Buttercup! This sweet'n'sassy senior gal is about 8-years-old and weighs just under 9lbs. Buttercup came to the SacSPCA with Glaucoma and Chronic Dry Eye that had gone untreated and caused major damage to her eyes. Due to the condition of her eyes, Buttercup had limited vision and was in constant discomfort. Luckily our veterinary team was able to perform surgery to remove both of her damaged eyes and Buttercup has been healing in a foster home for the last several weeks. She has healed from her surgery and is now ready for a very special home to call her own!

Buttercup's is looking for a home with someone who will be patient with her during her adjustment period. Her foster mom reports that Buttercup took a couple weeks to open up and become comfortable: "Given her increased sense of vulnerability, it takes a while before she lets down her guard and opens up to new people. It took a week before she could comfortably navigate inside the house, two weeks before she was confident enough to explore the back yard without someone guiding her on a leash. Over the past month she's blossomed into a sassy, funny, demanding diva. If she had her way, you'd hold her like a baby 24/7. She loves napping in her sling while you're working at the computer or watching TV, or sleeping in her bed at your feet. She may be itty bitty, but she's a bed hog who steals all of the blankets. She's a morning dove, not a night owl. She'll wake up on the wrong side of the bed if you tuck her in any later than 10:00 p.m. and she would love a life partner who's ready to hit the park at 5:00 am." Buttercup also enjoys interactive toys/puzzles and will show off her numerous tricks for treats (sit, stay, come, shake and dance)! She is reportedly potty trained, but needs to be taken outside for regular potty breaks.

Buttercup has shown signs of separation anxiety while in her foster home. When left alone she has a hard time settling down and will scratch/whine to show her displeasure. While this behavior may improve as she gets more comfortable in the home, Buttercup would do best in a home with someone who is home often or able to take her along to work/errands/outings with them. Her foster mom says Buttercup loves to go on outings and is perfectly behaved. She loves to be carried in her foster mom's arms or in a sling. Buttercup does not enjoy the company of other animals and would prefer to be your one and only. Due to her personality and vision impairment, Buttercup would do best in a home with adults only.
