New Hotline for Homeless Launched in Placer County

Placer County locals who are experiencing homelessness now have a new way to find help.

The Homeless Resource Council of the Sierras just announced their new helpline is up and running. People who are homeless can call the line and answer a few questions to determine their eligibility for various housing programs. Leslie Brewer, board president, says the new hotline will help various agencies throughout Placer County better coordinate services and prioritize needs.

"Instead of having people who are experiencing homelessness go to different agencies and call them and find out if they're eligible for their programs, this is a number that they can call, they'll answer some questions, and then they'll be referred to service providers who can offer that service," Brewer says.

She says the homeless can call the line and answer a few questions to determine their eligibility for various housing programs. Streamlined service is a requirement for getting financial support from HUD. The new hotline will help various agencies throughout Placer County better coordinate services and prioritize needs.

"There is hope and life can change. Just hold on and there are people and resources out there who can help them," Brewer says.

The new helpline is also available in Spanish.
