President Trump is in California.
He is the first president since Dwight D. Eisenhower to skip a visit to West Coast during his first calendar year in office.
Trump got off Air Force One just after 11:30 a.m., waived to supporters and protesters at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego County and jumped on Marine One. Then he headed over to check out border wall prototypes.
President Trump says a massive border wall will be the "first line of defense" for the U.S. and he said a border wall would stop the illegal flow of immigrants, gangs and drugs to the U.S.
Trump got a close look at some border wall prototypes in San Diego. He wants a big wall to cover much of the two-thousand-mile border between the U.S. and Mexico. Talking with a Border Patrol agent, Trump said illegal immigrants and drugs are "pouring in."
The border wall prototypes stand about 30-feet tall. They are steel and concrete walls that would also extend about six feet into the ground. Some preliminary estimates for a massive border wall have hit 20-billion dollars.
He also criticized sanctuary cities. He said sanctuary cities are protecting a "horrible group of people." The Justice Department is suing the state of California over its sanctuary immigration policies.
Trump also criticized Democratic Governor Jerry Brown and said he is doing a terrible job.
