The J Street Safety Project began Monday morning - causing lane closures downtown.
The project will add parking-separated bike lanes along J Street and upgrade parking meters.
The city states:
"These bikeways will allow people of all ages and levels to bike the grid, separated from moving traffic. Travel lanes will be reduced from 3 to 2, encouraging slower vehicle speeds, decreasing pedestrian crossing lengths, and improving corridor safety."
Construction is scheduled on J from 19th Street to 30th Street now through mid-August.
Drivers can expect lane closures Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and road closures between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the following days:
- Saturday, June 30: J Street from 19th to 21st
- Sunday, July 1: J Street from 22nd to 25th
- Saturday, July 7: J Street from 25th to 28th
- Sunday, July 8: J Street from 28th to 30th
