Two Children, Father Injured In Wrong-Way Driver Crash

A wrong-way driver caused a crash that left one child suffering life-threatening injuries on Tuesday night.

A 22-year-old Sacramento man made his way onto the eastbound Interstate 80 via the Madison Avenue off-ramp around 6:30 p.m.

The young man was driving a pickup truck and crossed the roadway to make it to the fast lane where he was facing oncoming traffic.

He tried to make a U-turn and crashed into a SUV.

A 6-year-old girl who was riding in the SUV suffered life-threatening injuries and an 8-year-old girl received major injuries as a result of the crash. The girls' father who was driving the vehicle was treated and released for more minor injuries.

The truck's driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and was treated for injuries in police custody.

The accident closed lanes on I-80 for several hours.
