Vacaville PD Evacuates Animal Shelter During Nelson Fire

While fire crews were fighting the Nelson Fire in Solano County on Saturday, Vacaville Police Department team members worked quickly to save animals as the flames got dangerously close to the Solano County SPCA.

Officers worked with shelter staff and volunteers to remove 60 pets from the facility and transition them to foster homes.

They released body camera footage of the evacuation on social media.

The shelter is looking for donations as it lost a lot of supplies due to power failures and smoke damage. A list and donation instructions was posted to the organization's Facbook page on Sunday.

The Nelson Fire was 100 percent contained on Sunday after it burned roughly 2,200 acres, according to Cal Fire.
