Now in its tenth year, the Citrus Heights Annual Holiday Referral Program is in full swing.
The Citrus Heights Police Department and the City of Citrus Heights are once again partnering with the community to give qualifying families a special Christmas blessing.
Sandy Maraviov with the police department said the program is specifically designed to help people who have suffered a hardship within the last year.
"We're looking for families to assist, whether they have kids or not," Maraviov said. "And then basically, we provide the Christmas meal, toys, needs."
Families are referred to the police department and are then interviewed. Once selected, the community comes together to do what it takes to make Christmas a happy time.
Maraviov said they serve about 50 families a year and couldn't do it without the community's help.
