Covered California is encouraging people to sign up for health care coverage during the open-enrollment period.
Covered California is on their statewide bus tour, encouraging folks to sign up for insurance during open enrollment, which continues through January 15th.
Doug McKeever with Covered California said there are still 1.1 million Californians who aren't insured. He said it's important for people to have health insurance in order to avoid financial ruin.
"Life can change in an instant," McKeever said. "If something dramatic happens to them medically, if they have insurance, they're protected, they're covered."
McKeever said people shouldn't worry too much about not being able to afford a plan, especially given 9 out of ten of their consumers get financial assistance.
"And that financial assistance will make their coverage more affordable," McKeever said.
Consumers must sign up by December 15th in order to have their coverage start January 1, 2019.
