Kevin McKay, who had only been driving a school bus for a few months in the city of Paradise, jumped into hero mode when the Camp Fire broke out on November 8.
As smoke began to enter the bus with nearly two dozen children on board, he and two teachers tore his shirt into pieces and added water. They then made the kids put them in their mouth to breathe.
It took them five hours to get out of harms way.
