Facebook on Tuesday announced plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in local news. The social media giant promised to invest 300-million-dollars into newsrooms in the United States and around the world to "help businesses create and implement business models in order to survive."
The investments will help with local reporting, recruit journalists to place them in local newsrooms, research ideas of how to use technology to improve news gathering and fund a program that is similar to the Peace Corps.
