Man Shot, Killed In Struggle With Yuba Co Deputy Identified

The suspect killed in Monday’s officer involved shooting in Linda on North Beale Road has been identified as 45-year-old Jahmal Derrick Stewart. Stewart is said to have been a transient in the Marysville area.

The investigation into the shooting continues, but authorities have previously said it appeared that the shooting happened when Yuba County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a 9-1-1 robbery call.  The deputies said  that a man in his 70s was beaten and robbed by Stewart.  The two apparently did not know each other.

Deputies arrived on scene approximately three minutes after the alleged attack and attempted to stop and talk to Stewart as he was walking nearby and carrying a weapon of some kind.  Moments later, the deputies reported to dispatcher that shots had been fired.

Additional Yuba County deputies responded, as did multiple other law enforcement agencies from the region.

Witnesses say they saw a man struggle with one deputy over a gun before he was shot and killed by a second deputy.
