California's first-term Senator Kamala Harris is getting into the Democratic presidential race. The high ranking Democrat took to Twitter to make it official on Monday. President Trump is not mentioned in the one minute video she tweeted out, but Harris says decency and justice are all on the line now.
Harris is a former California attorney general and has become known in the Senate for her aggressive questioning of President Donald Trump's nominees. Harris is bypassing an exploratory committee and entering the race directly. If successful, she would be the first woman and second African-American to hold the presidency. She's the daughter of immigrants from Jamaica and India.
The Senator also made an appearance on ABC's Good Morning America to discuss her candidacy.
Harris was born in Oakland and that is where she plans to launch her campaign for the White House on Sunday, January 27th.
