Excessive Groundwater Pumping Causes Arbuckle Sinking

New data shows that the Colusa County town of Arbuckle is sinking.

A study by the California Water Resources Department says the land in Arbuckle has sunk more than two-feet over the last decade, thanks to excessive groundwater pumping during the five-years of drought that started in 2012. But the report says the sinking in Arbuckle is only the worst of many land surface declines throughout the Sacramento Valley, which can damage infrastructure.

Subsidence has also been in several areas in Yolo County and statistically significant sinking has been observed at sites in Glenn and Yuba counties.
