Sacramento Welcomes Scooters With Stipulations

Electric scooters are coming to Sacramento this week, but they will not hit the streets without some ground rules.

Uber-owned Jump is delivering about 100 scooters to the downtown and West Sacramento areas on Friday. City officials are drawing up a safety ordinance for scooter riders to follow or the company will get dinged with a fine.

Other cities have dealt with scooters zooming around on sidewalks and endangering pedestrians. Scooters left abandoned on the sidewalk after a rental can also be a hazard. Officials say they must be ridden on the street and returned to their parking racks.
