Investigation Continues Into San Francisco Gas Line Explosion

The investigation continues into yesterday's San Francisco gas line rupture that led to a massive explosion and fire.

Pacific Gas and Electric says the contractor that cut into the pipe had requested the utility mark any underground gas lines, but PG&E hasn't yet confirmed whether it did so within the required 48-hours. That contractor, MasTec, was hired by Verizon to install fiber optic cables and its backhoe hit the gas line just after 1:00 yesterday afternoon at Geary and Parker.

No one was injured even though the resulting 40-foot fireball sent people running for their lives and damaged several businesses, especially the Hong Kong Lounge Two, a popular dim sum restaurant.
