The regional liquor store chain BevMo is testing what it claims to be the world's first voice-controlled booze shopping assistant, it calls Bev. Bev is set up in a so-called "smart aisle" in three of its Bay Area locations, with a sign that says "talk whiskey to me". Company officials say they are trying to "keep it fresh" against online pressures, but a skeptical industry analyst tells the Chronicle talking to a shelf is not yet seen as cool.
