BevMo Is Trying Out Voice-Assisted Booze Shopping

If you're not sure what kind of whiskey you want, you can ask Bev. The regional liquor store chain BevMo is testing what it claims to be the world's first voice-controlled booze shopping assistant, it calls Bev. Bev is set up in a so-called "smart aisle" in three of its Bay Area locations, with a sign that says "talk whiskey to me". Company officials say they are trying to "keep it fresh" against online pressures, but a skeptical industry analyst tells the Chronicle talking to a shelf is not yet seen as cool.
