Sac City Schools Tackle Massive Deficit

The Sacramento City Unified School District is making severe budget cuts to avoid a state takeover by the end of the year. The district's board is cutting more than 30 administrative positions as they work to tackle a projected 35-million-dollar budget deficit.

Thursday night, the board passed a resolution that will enact spending caps, along with a salary and hiring freeze. Other cost-saving measures will include teacher and staff layoffs, reducing vacation cash outs, and rebalancing employee benefit contributions.
