Free Weekly Yoga in the Park Classes Resume

Finding a community yoga class in the Sacramento region will soon be easier. Six different parks offer free weekly classes starting in April. The classes will be conducted by the local nonprofit Yoga Moves Us, which also holds regular free yoga classes at some of Sacramento largest parks as well as Roseville, Folsom, and Davis. Starting this year they will also include Elk Grove.

These outdoor classes will begin on April 6 and continue through September if weather permits.

"Our classes have an open invitation to come as you are, no matter if it’s the first time you’ve stepped on a yoga mat or you have been practicing for years. We embrace the idea that yoga is truly for everybody," said Zach Stahlecker, President of Yoga Moves Us.

Stahlecker also notes that you do not need any yoga experience to participate in the 75 minute classes. A limited number of yoga mats will be provided for people who do not have their own for the classes. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to donate to Yoga Moves Us to help cover the cost of the classes, which include facility rentals and insurance.

Classes are available on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. in the following locations: North Laguna Park, 6400 Jacinto Avenue, Sacramento, between the playground and the pond; McKinley Park: 601 Alhambra Boulevard, Sacramento, near the rose garden; Maidu Park, 1550 Maidu Drive, Roseville, near the library; Lions Park, 403 Stafford St., Folsom, near the community center; and Community Park: 1405 F Sreet, Davis, between the library and the baseball diamond.

Classes are available on Sundays at 9:00 a.m in the following location only: Tahoe Park, corner of 59th Street and 11th Avenue, Sacramento, near the pool.
