Sacramento-Area Neurosurgeon Charged For Alleged Fraudulent Billing

.

The California Department of Insurance says a neurosurgeon from the Sacramento area will have to answer in court to charges of insurance fraud. Authorities alleged that she submitted over $500,000 in fraudulent claims to the state.

Dr. Laura Anderson, of Carmichael, was reportedly arrested Monday and released on bail.

Court documents filed by prosecutors say that during an approximately five year period dating back to 2013 Anderson is believed to have billed the state fund for medical services she never provided to her patients. She allegedly also changed the coding of bills for x-rays and telephone consultations in an effort to charge higher rates for more costly services.

The 64-year-old Anderson is listed online among the doctors affiliated with Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, and Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

The El Dorado County District Attorney's office is handling prosecution of the case which will be heard in Sacramento County, since that is reportedly where Anderson both lives and works.
