FBI Camp Fire Criminal Investigation Putting PG&E Equipment To The Test

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is getting involved in the criminal probe becoming done on last November's deadly Camp Fire.

Butte County prosecutors have asked the FBI to conduct tests on portions of the power line and perhaps towers which might have sparked California's deadliest and most destructive wildfire ever. That evidence was just recently collected by investigators.

NBC Bay Area reports that video showed on Wednesday that PG&E crews were working on the line in question near where the fire started.

Pacific Gas & Electric has already conceded its equipment probably caused the fire responsible for killing at least 88 people and destroying more than 10,321 structures, but lawyers say the utility could face criminal charges if officials knew there were problems before the fire and failed to do anything to address those problems. PG&E spokesman James Noonan told the San Francisco Chronicle that the cause of the Camp Fire is still under investigation and "any related inquiries should be directed to the appropriate agencies."

PG&E is currently going through bankruptcy and is already on criminal probation stemming from the deadly 2010 San Bruno gas pipeline explosion.
