Slain Sacramento Police Officer Memorial Fund To Provide K-9 For Department

Some of the money donated to online memorial campaigns established after the shooting death of Tara O'Sullivan will be used to purchase and train K-9 officers to honor the legacy of the young Sacramento police officer.

O'Sullivan's family appeared alongside members of the Sacramento and Martinez police departments to announce $20,000 had already been raised to purchase one dog in Sacramento. O'Sullivan's father Dennis says his daughter loved dogs and dreamed of becoming a K-9 handler one day.

"I want to acknowledge the many law enforcement agencies who gave their support and encouragement after we lost Tara and continue to do so this day."

Sacramento Police Sergeant Josh Dobson, who heads the Sacramento Police K-9 team, says additional money raised online will be used to purchase and train more dogs in O'Sullivan's memory.
