Citrus Heights City Council approved plans to redevelop Sunrise Mall Thursday night. Sunrise Mall once was an economic juggernaut for the city, but in recent years, it has not lived up to its reputation. It is still not set in stone what will replace Sunrise mall, but the city wants it to be a place where people can work, shop, live and play.
According to Citrus Heights Mayor Jeannie Bruins, redeveloping Sunrise mall is a priority because there is not any more space in Citrus Heights to build. Even though the council voted to approve plan for redevelopment of the mall, the final say of what happens to the mall lies with the five entities that own the mall, however, the vote gives the city a seat at the table.
