Yosemite Historic Names Restored After $12 Million Lawsuit Settled

Travel Destination: Western USA

Popular Yosemite landmarks will go back to their original names after a $12 million lawsuit was settled.

Yosemite changed the names of Ahwahnee Hotell, Curry Village, Wawona Hotel and Badger Pass in 2016 following a lawsuit filed by Delaware North alleging they owned the trademarks to various historic names.

While the trademark lawsuit was going on, The Ahwahnee had become "The Majestic Yosetime Hotel". Curry Village was "Half Dome Village". Wawona Hotel was changed to "Big Trees Lodge" and Badger Pass was "Yosemite Ski & Snowboard Area".

The settlement requires Aramark to pay $8.16 million and the government to pay $3.84 million to Delaware North in order to keep the names, logos and other branded content, Yosemite spokesman Scott Gediman told news sources.

The changes will be effective immediately.
